April Strain of the Month - T.W. Duke (Lemon Skunk)

The reasons for cross-breeding specific strains – high potency, impressive terpene profile and strong genetic make-up – are as varied as the resulting hybrid names. Conceived of two Skunk phenotypes with prolific lemon traits, T.W. Duke, one of High Times’ Top 10 strains of 2009, was bred simply for smell and taste.

A small plant with a high calyx to leaf ratio, T.W. Duke is characterized by plump orange hairs and a thick trichome coverage that sprawls across the plant’s light-green features like the winter season’s first snowfall. High in caryophyllene, with equal parts pinene, myrcene and limonene, the strain has a sweet, citrusy terpene profile.

Bred in the Netherlands by DNA Genetics, T.W. Duke has international pedigree. The prized male was donated by the former owner of Holland’s oldest seed bank and the strain’s Lemon mother from a renowned breeder in Las Vegas, where the phenotype has been kept for the last 20 years.

“It’s an early flower variety with a great terpene profile,” says Don of DNA. “The Lemon Skunk originally comes from a pack of Skunk 1 seeds that were bought and grown out in Las Vegas, where it was known as the Las Vegas lemon for its lemon citrus terpene profile.”

The strain, now officially known as Lemon Skunk, has been reported by patients to be a great variety to help manage stress and anxiety. Because of its mid-range THC and low CBD content, T.W. Duke is said to be an invigorating strain that can be consumed in both the morning and daytime hours.
