Meet the Grower-
Started at Tweed: September 29, 2014
Job Title: Post-Harvest Manager
Andrew Rock’s introduction to cannabis didn’t come with any stigma attached. Raised by professionals in a household where marijuana wasn’t frowned upon, Andrew was made aware of the plant’s medical applications at a young age when someone close to him started treating chronic pain with marijuana. In his teenage years, Andrew’s second-hand interest turned to personal fascination as he explored every aspect of the culture.
A driven individual who set out in academia to build a successful career, he knew he wanted to work in a green industry and first considered landscape architecture before answering the cannabis call. In addition to a BA from Dalhousie University, where he studied political science and international development, Andrew also graduated from Algonquin College’s horticulture program.
When the MMPR was unveiled midway through his time at Algonquin, he was captivated to action by the progressive nature of the regulations. After applying to Tweed twice he was hired on as a production assistant and quickly promoted to processing supervisor. Six months later, he was again promoted to post-harvest manager, a new role for Tweed that sees him overseeing every aspect of the product lifecycle, from the moment the plant is cut until the lid of the jar is sealed. In the future, Andrew hopes to be able to evangelize his role and help patients better understand the particulars of the cannabis plant.
